Tobacco-Free St. Louis is dedicated to achieving a healthy, tobacco-free environment for the Greater St. Louis area. The coalition works collaboratively with concerned individuals and organizations to prevent tobacco use, promote tobacco cessation, and provide resources to the community.

SSM Health Care – St. Louis offers free, quarterly, six-week smoking cessation classes at SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton and SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in Richmond Heights. The Freedom from Smoking program is being offered to patients, employees and the community. The course will assist participants in determining their readiness to quit smoking and provide the tools necessary to increase their success rate in becoming smoke free. Freedom From Smoking (FFS), is a nationally recognized adult smoking cessation program designed to help people learn the skills they need to successfully quit tobacco use. It is a seven-week, eight session program that uses positive behavior change in a group setting. Special attention is given to developing a quitting strategy, dealing with recovery symptoms, controlling weight, managing stress through relaxation, assertiveness techniques, and staying off cigarettes. The sessions occur once-a-week and are led by a certified facilitator.

Put out smoking once and for all, for free. Mercy offers a comprehensive approach to tobacco cessation that's designed to keep you smoke-free for life. Mercy Hospital - St. Louis offers both small group and individualized Freedom From Smoking sessions.  These classes are for patients, employees, and the community.  Thanks to a grant from the St. Louis County (Communities Putting Prevention to Work), Mercy Hospital – St. Louis will offer Freedom From Smoking at no cost. Classes and materials are FREE. This smoking cessation program, developed by the American Lung Association, was recently named “most effective” in a study by Fordham University.  Mercy Hospital – St. Louis is also able to host Freedom From Smoking classes on-location at St. Louis County employers with 50 or more employees.  Mercy is also able to hold one hour health lung lectures to organizations, businesses, and schools to educate those about smoking prevention and cessation.

Young Choices

Young Choices, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that develops tobacco prevention programs for children, adults, schools, churches, community organizations and businesses.

Don Young's versatile program on the hazards of tobacco includes stark pictures of himself, his personal story, and that of others who have suffered tobacco's devastating effects.

While there are many prevention programs from which to choose, Young Choices is the most effective program of its kind.
