American Lung Association's Facilitator Training

These are the upcoming training dates:

American Lung AssociationAre you interested in helping people stop smoking? Enroll in our Freedom From Smoking facilitator training program! This 1 ½ day training will give you the knowledge and tools needed to facilitate Freedom From Smoking clinics.

Freedom From Smoking (FFS), is a nationally recognized adult smoking cessation program designed to help people learn the skills they need to successfully quit tobacco use. Considered "America's gold standard in smoking cessation programs," it is a seven-week, eight session program that uses positive behavior change in a group setting. Special attention is given to developing a quitting strategy, dealing with recovery symptoms, controlling weight, managing stress through relaxation, assertiveness techniques, and staying off cigarettes.

The American Lung Association, Plains-Gulf Region will be holding a FFS Facilitator Trainings in May, and there are still openings available. The details are as follows:

 

2012 Training

Freedom From Smoking Facilitator Training Program
Dates: Thursday, May 17 through Friday, May 18, 2012
Time: 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Thursday and 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on Friday
Location: 1118 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139 (near Hwy 40)
Cost: $400 (includes certification, facilitator materials, and lunch both days).

Facilitators must be non-users of tobacco, successfully complete the training course, and sign an agreement of professional standards before facilitating a clinic. Certificate is issued after successfully completing the training, which then permits you to begin offering clinics for the next three years to businesses and community groups looking to provide tobacco cessation services (recertification is available after three years if compliant with “active” status requirements).
